Rutarisa

I’m an illustrator and designer based in Norwich, UK with an interest in preserving folklore, mythology, legends, and traditional forms of expressed culture. My fascination with folktales has led me to spend my MA time studying how they have evolved through time and the different anthropological ways to interpret them.

Bookmaking has been an important part of my projects, which has helped me develop technical skills to go from storyboards to a finished book design. Whilst merging old folktales with my new concept designs, it was interesting to transfer my traditional mixed media artworks onto digital and printed platforms, using Adobe InDesign, Photoshop and Illustrator.

My final project was based around myths from three different regions, each of which tries to explain their origin and culture. My hope is that the reader will be enveloped by an explosion of visual imagery as if the big bang itself were taking place within the pages of the book.
